THE launching of the 2020 National Book Week was held on Monday at Sagalau Demonstration Primary School outside of Madang town, with the Theme: “Creating greater access to information through Libraries”.
The National Book Week is celebrated every year in schools to remind students about the importance of reading books to enhance their knowledge and understanding.
Being present was a representative from the National Library and Archiveswho was there to present a total of K5 thousandworth of library books to the 17 selected primary and high schools in and around Madang town.
The Representative from the National Library and Archives Mr. Robert Yalip, while speaking at the launch mentioned that library network is very important and that we should have library all throughout the country.
Alsopresented at the launch was the Acting Education Director for Madang, Mr. John Sigara, who encouraged students to read a lot of books so that they can enhance their knowledge about anything and everything that they would like to know of.
Those 17 selected schools in and around Madang town participated well and a few primary schools presented their items, based on the theme through creative songs and dramas which they made the event a success.
Towards the end of the event, a few students from Lutheran Day Primary School presented the guests with gifts and also a special gift, which was a ‘clay pot’ presented by an Elementary student Matut Tropu who is from Madang, represented Jomba Elementary and Primary school and presented that special clay pot to Mr. Yalip, to be put in the Office of National Library and Archives in Port Moresby.
Meanwhile, some schools in and around Madang have organized their activities to celebrate the 2020 National Book Week by the end of this week in their respective schools.
